House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez will administer the oath-taking of newly elected and re-elected punong barangays in the city and province of Iloilo.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. yesterday said the mass oath-taking ceremony is set on June 24 at the Iloilo Convention Center.
“They will take their oath not as members of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) but as elected village chiefs,” he clarified
Alvarez serves as secretary-general of PDP-Laban, the political party of President Roodrigo Duterte.
The governor, who is also a member of PDP-Laban, said he already talked to First District Representative Oscar Garin Jr., Second District Representative Arcadio Gorriceta, Third District Representative Arthur Defensor Jr., and Iloilo City Representative Jerry P. Treñas about the oath-taking of punong barangays.
“They all confirmed to attend and committed to send punong barangays from their respective districts,” he told reporters.
Defensor said he also invited Fourth District Representative Ferjenel Biron and Fifth District Representative Raul Tupas.
The governor said the invitation is “purely voluntary.” “They are not being forced to attend.”
“Ang makauyon lang mag-attend kay knowing the politics of fourth district, nag-announce naman si Congressman Biron nga makandidato siya as governor of Iloilo so nali ang mga kapitan indi man mag-attend.”
Defensor said he is still waiting for the confirmation of Tupas.
