BFAR Donates Fiberglass Boats for Buenavista, Guimaras Fisherfolks

Fifty twenty footer fiberglass boats are set to be donated and distributed to fishermen from the 17 coastal barangays of the Buenavista, Guimaras this May 2017.

The project worth 2.7M pesos is funded under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Livelihood Funds implemented by the National Marine Fisheries Development Center (NMFDC)and the BFAR Regional Office 6.

Pierre Easter L. Velasco of BFAR National Marine Fisheries Development Center said the beneficiaries will be directly engaged in the construction of the fiberglass boats and will be trained by BFAR technicians.

He added that the fiberglass boats worth with an estimated amount of 55 thousand pesos each will be fitted with a 5.5 horsepower gasoline engine and underwater fittings are expected to be officially received by the beneficiaries by May after construction started this month.

The boats are part of the 250 fiberglass boats funded by BFAR-NMFDC intended to be distributed to the five municipalities of the Province of Guimaras under the “Bangka Ko, GawaKo” Program.
