Imperious lions ruthlessly trampled dolphins.
Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions seized the championship title after defeating John B Lacson Maritime University Dolphins in Men’s Football Championship game recently at La Paz football pitch.
The said game was part of the Iloilo school sports Association Meet (ISSA) which was participated by various schools in Iloilo City.
CPU took the driver set early on the 7th minute after winger Joshua Supeña scored the winning goal of the match, he used his speed on the right wing and defeated the defenders of the opposing team, the ball was deflected by the defender of the John B which directly went to the back of the net for a 1-nil score.
On the second half the Dolphins struggled on their offense and defense when Jose Esmilla was given a Red card on the 48th by the referee for an attempt to punch a CPU player.
The dolphins went for quick counter attacks but the defense of CPU was just too strong for them, CPU capitalized the weakness of the dolphins playing 10 men the pitch.
On the 90th minute John Paul Caro was fouled inside the penalty area by Dolphins defender Ivan Supeña. Christian Theodor de Juan took the penalty kick but it went directly to the hands of Dolphins Keeper John Sumagpao.
Bob Clarence Javellana, CPU head coach said that he good defense of his team made them win in the said match.
“They improved a lot and they really worked hard on this,” Javellana added.
He also thanked the CPU Administration for their support, especially to Dr. Eun Hyung Pee head coach of the CPU international football team for the training he spent with their team. IMT
