Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on Friday said he invited Barotac Viejo Mayor Niel “Beng” Tupas III to be the running mate of his son, Representative Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr., in the 2019 elections.

Defensor Jr. is running for governor of the province of Iloilo.

The governor said Tupas is “seriously considering” his offer to run for vice governor.

Tupas is expected to announce his final decision on Monday, Sept. 17.

The mayor will have to consult first his family.

Defensor Sr. is hopeful that Tupas will accept the offer.

Kon batunon ni Beng ang offer, ang ila tandem ni Toto makabig nga powerhouse,” he said.

Defensor Jr. will face Representative Ferjenel Biron in the gubernatorial race next year.

Biron has yet to announce his running mate.

On Sept.8, Guimbal Mayor Oscar Garin announced that their family would support the candidacy of Biron.

“We are for Ferj Biron,” he said during the mass oath-taking of Nacionalista Party members in Iloilo and Antique at the Iloilo Convention Center.IMT
