The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) urged the public to be “very vigilant” in dealing with people posing as employees of the agency.

“Report immediately to proper authorities if and when [you] encounter [unscrupulous] individuals or groups,” said DOT-6 Director Helen J. Catalbas in a public advisory.

Recently, a 35-year-old man from Barangay Dayao, Roxas City was arrested for pretending to be a DOT-6 employee to obtain money.

“Jonel Cortez Lancisco alias Gregg C. Macaraig is not in any way connected or has been temporarily employed with the DOT-6 on Bonifacio Drive in Iloilo City,” Catalbas said.

Lancisco, according to her, “has been engaged in fake marketing activities particulary using discount cards for transport, accomodation, tours, and shopping.”

Catalbas said they are “not condoning this act of defrauding the public in the guise of tourism.”

“We are doing our best to protect the good name of the industry here in Western Visayas and the entire country,” she added.IMT
