President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of the inter-agency task force to close Boracay Island for six months.
The approval was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday night.
“Bora closed for six months effective 26 April,” he said.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Tourism (DOT) recommended the closure to hasten the rehabilitation of the world-famous island, which has been suffering from environmental problems.
Duterte made the decision during the 24th Cabinet meeting in Malacañang.
The President, in a business forum in Davao City in February, described Boracay as a “cesspool.”IMT
