The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) was dismayed over the victory of drug-linked barangay officials in the elections on Monday, May 14.
Their reelection was an “insult” to the agency, according to PDEA-6 Regional Director Wardley Getalla.
While he respects the results of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, Getalla said those involved in illegal drugs don’t deserve any of the elected positions.
Two weeks before the elections, the PDEA publicized the “validated” list of alleged “narco-barangay officials.”
Gemma Calzado, the sole barangay official from Iloilo who was included on the list, won as barangay kagawad of Kasing-Kasing in Molo district, Iloilo City.
Remia Gregori, sister of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido, was reelected punong barangay of Bakhaw in Mandurriao district.
Keith “Dabing” Espinosa, wife of convicted drug suspect Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa, was elected as the new punong barangay of Monica Blumentritt, City Proper.
Noel Odicta, brother of slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr., was elected barangay kagawad of Tanza Esperanza, City Proper.
Getalla said they would continue to gather evidence against the officials linked to illegal drugs.IMT
