The Guimaras Provincial Government has allocated a bigger budget for the silver anniversary celebration of its Manggahan Festival this month.

“We are spending more or less P13 million for the 25th edition of the festival,” said Liberty Ferrer, provincial tourism officer.

“This is bigger than the previous years’ budgets,” she noted.

According to Ferrer, they increased allocations for some activities in line with the celebration of the festival.

“We have activities like the BMX Fest, Sports Day, and the 4th Gumarin’s Motorcross Challenge with participants coming from different parts of the country,” she said.

The provincial government also invited more festivals to perform in the Invitational Cultural Presentation.

“Aside from our provinces here in Western Visayas, we also sent an invitation to Kalinga,” Ferrer said.

Other exciting Mangghan-related activities include Mango-Eat-All-You-Can, Talentadong Guimarasnon Showdown, Search for Mutya ng Guimaras, Streetdance Battle, Cultural Competition, Agri-Trade and Tourism Fair, and Mango Chandelier Contest.

Ferrer said they prepared 14.6 tons of mangoes for Mango-Eat-All-You-Can alone.

The celebration of the 25th Manggahan Festival kicked off on May 11.

This year’s festival theme is Bugana: Celebrating the Silver Glory of Manggahan Festival.
