Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III urged the public to help maintain the cleanliness of the Iloilo Esplanade by disposing their trash properly.
“Tani self descipline gid na kay maskin ano naton ka paninguha kon ang tawo gapanghaboy, manghaboy gid na.So ginasunod lang naton permi ang ila basura,” he said in a media interview on Monday.
According to the mayor, the city government never became inactive in taking good care of the place.
Espinosa said there are three offices, namely the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Agriculture Office and City Engineer’s Office, that are tasked to look after the Iloilo Esplanade.
The mayor, however, admitted that the city lacks proper equipment as well as manpower to do the maintenance works regularly.
“But we are doing our best to acquire the needed equipment, especially for the watering of our plants their,” Espinosa said.
The Iloilo Esplanade, designed by architect Paulo Alcazaren, was opened in August 2012. It has become a favorite area for jogging, walking, and resting.
Last year, the linear park won in the Landscape Architecture category of Haligi ng Dangal.IMT
