The construction of a new and bigger grandstand in Iloilo City is expected to be completed before the end of 2018.

City Engineer Roberto “Bobby” Divinagracia said the project is scheduled for completion in November this year.

The new Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, which can accommodate about 4,000 people, will be constructed along Muelley Loney Street facing the Iloilo River.

The city government has allotted P50 million for the project.

Divinagracia said they will closely monitor the construction of the structure to prevent delays.

Kun wala lang bagyo kag iban pa nga makacause sang delay sigurado matapos ang project by November kag magamit na sa Dinagyang next year.”

According to Divinagracia, the Notice to Proceed (NTP) had already been signed by City Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

“This means the winning bidder can now proceed with the construction,” he said.

The project will be undertaken by contractor F. Gurrea Construction.

The existing Iloilo Freedom Grandstand will be demolished to pave the way for the restoration of the Sunburst Park, which will be funded by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) infrastructure arm.IMT
