The Sangguniang Panlungsod on Monday approved an ordinance requiring all pet owners in Iloilo City to “scoop the poop” of their dogs, cats, and other animals.
The ordinance, authored by Councilor Jay Treñas, aims to “promote responsible pet ownership and maintain the city’s cleanliness and sanitation.”
Pet owners, under the new measure, “must clean up the feces of their pets along the city’s streets and in public places.”
“They are not also allowed to take their pets for a walk around without a leash,” Treñas said.
Those found violating the ordinance will pay a P3000 fine.
The ordinance will be implemented by the City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO), Social Services Unit (SSU), and barangay councils 10 days after publication in a newspaper.IMT
