More than 2,000 new businesses opened in Iloilo City this year, according to the Business Permits and Licensing Division (BPLD).
BPLD issued 2,172 new business permits from January to December 7, 2018.
Norman Tabud, BPLD head, said the number is higher compared to their target of 2,000 new businesses by the end of the year.
Most of the new businesses, according to Tabud, belong to the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.
“The small and medium-sized businesses include sari-sari stores and those stalls and kiosks inside our malls and public markets here,” he said.
Tabud attributed the higher number of new businesses to the stable peace and order situation and readily-available infrastructures in the city.
“Our improved ease of doing business also attracted investors to put up their businesses here,” he added.
Currently, around 15,500 businesses are operating in the city.IMT
