A P24-million Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC) will soon rise in Iloilo City.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will fund the construction of AMTEC Visayas Satellite inside the Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC) compound in Jaro district.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, DA Secretary Manny Piñol led the groundbreaking ceremony of the project.

“Today we marked another milestone in our efforts to improve the quality of equipment that we provide to our farmers,” he said.

The main AMTEC is in the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna. It serves as the premier and reference testing center in the Philippines.

DA said, “All agricultural machinery and equipment being offered by suppliers, dealers, and manufacturers should have been tested by AMTEC.”

The AMTEC building in WESVIARC has P6 million budget, P13 million for the procurement of scientific and technical equipment, and P5 million for the office equipment.

“This actually adheres with the policy of the President to give only the best for Filipino farmers. In the three-day Makina Expo being held at the Iloilo Convention Center, 140 manufacturers are showcasing their best and modernized farm equipment and machinery as well as the locally fabricated equipment,” Piñol said.
