The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) is positive the operation of the Small Town Lottery (STL) in the province will eradicate “bookies”, an illegal numbers game.

Senior Supt. Marlon Tayaba, IPPO director, said on Wednesday that the presence of a legal STL operator would eradicate the existing bookies in the province.

Red Subay Gaming Corporation, the STL operator that bagged the franchise from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), is expected to start its operations next month.

It will replace Eagle Crest Gaming Corporation, which was ordered to stop its operations last May for failure to comply with the post-approval requirements of the PCSO.

Tayaba said there has been a surge in the number of “bookies” bet collectors in the province after Eagle Crest stopped its operation,

“We have apprehended more than 200,” he said.

Tayaba said that the new STL operator is a “welcome development” because there would be a change in the operation of the bookies.

“Most likely they (Red Subay) will employ those people engaged in illegal number games,” he said.

He said that they are expecting the operator to cooperate with them in terms of safety mechanisms and policies, although they have yet to meet the incorporators.

The PCSO board approved the franchise of the Red Subay Gaming Corporation last August 9.PNA
