The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) will tap the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-6) to help address the flooding problem in Iloilo City.
The SP on Tuesday, Aug. 7, unanimously approved a resolution urging NEDA to “conduct a study for a possible solution and recommend for inclusion in their pipelines of projects in Western Visayas to be approved by the President.”
Councilor Joshua Alim, the author of the resolution, lamented that flooding has long been a problem in the city.
“Kada mag-ulan gabaha diri sa syudad,” the “annoyed” councilor said.
Alim is eyeing to put up a water impounding facility in the metropolis.
“I want this to be included in NEDA’s study,” he said.
According to Alim, the facility will store rainwater during flooding. “The water will be released once the flood subsides.”
“NEDA is authorized by the law to conduct studies and make recommendations relative to the implementation of projects for local government units that require a big budget,” he explained.
Alim said he already presented the proposed facility not only to NEDA but also to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6).IMT
