There are 13 elected officials in Western Visayas included in the latest “narco list,” the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) revealed on Monday, March 4.
These “narco politicians,” according to PDEA-6 Director Alex Tablate, are “protectors and financiers of the illegal drug trade.”
“They (narco politicians) are vice mayors, mayors, vice governors, governors, and congressmen,” he said.
Tablate declined to disclose their names. “The process of validation is still underway,” he explained.
Of the 13 “narco politicians” in the region, seven are candidates in the May 13 midterm elections, the director divulged
Tablate said aside from PDEA, there are other law enforcement agencies that conduct the validation of the “narco list.”
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said the “narco list” would be released before the start of the campaign season for local candidates on March 29.
“Para sa akin, gusto ko ilabas talaga ‘yan para makita ng mga tao kung sino ang dapat iboto at hindi.”
The move is supported by Malacañang.
“The idea of presenting a list by the DILG and PDEA is to tell the electorate the kind of candidates that they will choose from and I think it will help them,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
