4-day-old baby is youngest measles patient in WV

A four-day-old baby girl is the youngest measles patient in Western Visayas, the Department of Health (DOH-6) revealed on Friday, Feb. 22.

Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, Child Health Program medical coordinator of the DOH-6, said the baby is from Bacolod City.

According to her, the baby probably acquired measles from her mother, who was suspected of being infected with the disease.

Juanico said they are still waiting for the result of the laboratory test of the mother from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

On the other hand, the oldest person suspected to be infected with measles in the region is a 64-year-old man from Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

The DOH-6, as of Feb. 22, 2019, recorded 688 suspected cases of measles with three deaths. Of the figure, 33 are laboratory-confirmed cases.

Negros Occidental has the highest number of cases with 253, followed by Antique, 161; Bacolod City, 97; Iloilo province, 76; Aklan, 40; Iloilo City, 26; Capiz, 24; anf Guimaras, 2. IMT
