The towns of Buruanga and Ibajay, Aklan’s provincial hospital Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital and PhilHealth-Aklan have been nominated for the Red Orchid Award of the Department of Health (DOH) this year.
Red Orchid Award is the Department of Health’s (DOH) search for 100-percent tobacco-free provinces, municipalities, cities, government offices, government hospitals, and DOH Centers for Health Development.
Buruanga, the provincial hospital and PhilHealth-Aklan will have the chance to be elevated to the Red Orchid “Hall of Fame” if they get included after the validation
The Hall of Fame is given to entities conferred with the award for three consecutive times.
A town must have an antismoking ordinance and a smoking cessation clinic, and introduce innovations and good practices to discourage smoking in public places to qualify for the award.
Aklan is also aiming to be a Red Orchid awardee in 2020. IMT/PIA
