House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is confident that Iloilo City will be in better hands if Representative Jerry P. Treñas becomes its mayor again.

“Malaki ang tiwala ko at ng partido ng PDP-Laban (Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan) in the leadership of Treñas,” said Alvarez, secretary-general of PDP-Laban, the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Yesterday, Alvarez led the mass oath-taking of punong barangays from Iloilo and Guimaras at the Ilollo Convention Center.

He believes that Treñas can further intensify the campaign against illegal drugs in the city, which was tagged by Duterte as the “most shabulized” in the country.

Kung ibabalik ninyo siyang mayor ng city of Iloilo, hindi niya papayagan na lumaganap ang illegal drugs,” said Alvarez.

Before he was elected as congressman in 2010, Treñas served as mayor of the city for three terms (2001-2004, 2004-2007, 2007-2010).

Last March, the third-termer congressman declared to run for mayor of the city.

Treñas will face off against incumbent Mayor Jose Espinosa III in the mayoral race next year.

Meanwhile, Alvarez also endorsed Third District Representative Arthur “Toto” Defensor, Jr. for governor of the province.

Napakasipag po niya kaya kung siya man ang pipiliin at susuportahan ninyo sa probisnya, ako I have full trust and confidence kay Congressman Toto,” he said.

Defensor Jr. and Fourth District Representative Ferjenel Biron are running for the gubernatorial post in 2019.IMT
