The Governor declared the opening of the celebration of Binirayan Festival during a program held at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park in the province of Antique.
Governor Rhodora Cadiao made the declaration amidst the festive mood of the Antiqueños under the full moonlight at the park with ‘Kruhay Binirayan’ background music and fireworks display.
The Binirayan Festival is an annual celebration of heritage and culture started during the administration of the late Governor Evelio B. Javier.
The festival re-enacts the landing and settlement of the ten Malayan Datus in what is now Malandog, Hamtic, Antique.
The theatrical presentations are portrayed in Malayan and “Ati” costumes to showcase to both local and foreign tourists the Antiqueños’ noble beginnings, colorful history and heritage.
The re-enactment was held December 26 at 3:00 P.M. at the shorelines of Malandog.
This year marks the 40th Binirayan Festival “as an embodiment of the lives of our forefathers in their search for human dignity, justice, freedom and peace,” Gov. Cadiao said.
This year’s theme is “Dunang manggad tatapun, Turismo pasanyugun, Kultura padayunon.”
The activities from December 27-30 to be held at the EBJ Freedom Park are as follows: December 27- Rafflessia-inspired costume contest; Drum and Bugle contest; Top 10 rafflesia designers battle and Lin-ay kang Antique talent’s night; December 28- Marathon; Tribute to Evelio B. Javier; LGU and Layas Antiqueño night; Fashion night; Globe Night; December 29- Malay-Ati Competition; Karsadyahan.
The Lin-ay kang Antique 2015 grand coronation night will be held at the EBJ Gymnasium, Binirayan Hills, San Jose, Antique.
On December 30 at the EBJ Freedom Park, the festival will be capped by Wreath-laying at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal; Parada ng lahi; LGU float parade and contest; Fiesta sa Probinsya; Songs and Dances of Antique; Fireworks display; and Binayle. (JSC/VWV-PIA6 Antique)
