The Philippine Army has warned the public, especially those trekking enthusiasts, against entering mountain ranges in the towns of Miagao, Igbaras, and San Joaquin in Iloilo province.
Lieutenant Colonel Sisenando Magbalot Jr., commanding officer of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion, made the warning following a series of clashes between the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and government forces
“Sa mga posibleng aakyat diyan sa mga bundok for trekking, iwasan muna natin for now yung pag-akyat dahil may mga pursuit operation tayong ginagawa,” he said.
“Posibleng nandiyan lang sila sa paligid and ayaw natin yung mga kababayan natin medyo maipit o madamay dito,” Magbalot added.
The series of encounters occured in Barangay Mulangan, Igbaras, Iloilo on March 17; Barangay Osorio I in San Remegio, Antique on March 19; Sitio Igburay, Barangay Lacay Doldol, Igbaras on March 20; and Brgy Alimodias, Miagao, Iloilo on March 24.IMT
