Tourist arrivals in the world renowned paradise island destination have nearly breached the one million mark in the first half of 2016.
Based on data from Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO), Boracay welcomed a total of 982,710 visitors from January to June this year. The figure was higher by 15.32 percent compared to 852,168 in the same period last year.
Of the total number, foreign tourists listed were 472,814; while domestic tourists were 484,131; and overseas Filipinos, 25,765.
The month of April posted the highest number of arrivals with 183,047; followed by February with 173,256; May, 170,454; January, 158,701; March, 156,872; and June, 140,380.
Meanwhile, tourism receipts of the island for the first six months of the year reached P27,431,964,753.30, of which P18,791,243,078.40 came from foreign and overseas Filipinos, while the P8,640,721,674.90 were from domestic tourists.
Boracay, according to the Malay Tourism Office, is targeting 1.7 million tourist arrivals this year. PIA-6
