Speed and endurance of over one thousand students dominated the football field of the country’s football capital, Barotac Nuevo during the 3-day celebration of Globe Football Para sa Bayan.
The said event is an annual football festival spearheaded by Globe Telecom through its sports ambassador, Emelio Chieffy Caligdong.
“This is a very significant and noble cause which I really want to be part of and I’m glad for the opportunity to help in providing classrooms for our school children” said Caligdong in his press conference before the said event.
Rob Nazal of Globe Head for Corporate Social Responsibility said that they are proud to have Caligdong to drive the company’s advocacy on sports development and advancement, specifically in leading and conducting of football clinics in the grassroots level.
Student ages 6-16 from both public and private schools in Iloilo impressed spectators after their blast off performance in the field.
Caligdong also led the conduct of football clinics, wherein the proceeds will benefit TEN MOVES, a social mobilization campaign of Bayanihang Pampaaralan.
It aims to raise enough resources to help build 10,000 classrooms in public schools nationwide.
“We see lot of potential in our young players who if given proper training and encouragement, have the potential to excel in football. Being a native of Barotac, Nuevo, conducting football clinics is my way of giving back to the province where I was born” Caligdong added.
Caligdong is an awardee TOYM for the excellence and luster he brought to the Philippine football after playing for the team Azkals for almost a decade and teaching football to children in Barotac Nuevo.
Globe Football sa Bayan also serves as the training ground for up and coming local football players as well as for those set to compete at Palarong Pambansang. IMT
