Comprehensive drainage project in Iloilo City done by February 2020

The second phase of the comprehensive drainage project in Iloilo City is expected to be completed by February 2020.

Engineer Al Fruto, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assistant director, said Phase II covers the area from Jalandoni Street, City Proper to Barangay Alalasan in La Paz district.

Phase II, which has a budget worth P173 million, started late last year.

“The project covers 6.6 kilometers of more or less reinforced concrete box-culvert type nga drainage line with varying sizes,” said Fruto.

According to him, the biggest concrete box-culvert will be placed along the Sinikway-Alalasan area.

The project is being undertaken by MGV Construction.

Fruto said the two-phase project aims to “alleviate the perrenial flooding or ponding [in some parts] of La Paz plaza leading to Barangay Divinagracia.”

The project is being undertaken by MGV Construction.

Fruto said most of the works are done in the afternoon until evening to avoid hassles.

“We are doing the casting in the morning and in the afternoon….ang mabungkal naton, mahulogan nalang dayun. Bali na-ca-cast na sya nga component sang box-culvert,” he explained.

Fruto said that the job is “challenging” considering that the project is located in a populated area.

Amo na gani nga ginadevice naton ang schedule. Kay indi man ta kapa sobra late in the evening kay may mga resident man. With the experience man sa Phase I nga nagareklamo man kon magahod kon more than 12 midnight na ang aton obra,” said Fruto.IMT
