The Western Visayas Goat Nucleus Farm program of Iloilo Provincial Government is now ready to cater 500 goats at the 50-hectare land in Brgy. Calamigan, Concepcion, Iloilo.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said the provincial government has set aside P 5 million for the said project which includes purchase of 500 ‘buer’ goats from America, water system, electrical lines and four- unit goat maternity or growing house.
Banias also said all the needed facility is now ready and they are now developing the pasture to be ready anytime once the goats will be shipped here by third quarter of this year.
On his part, Iloilo Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo said other additional constructions will be handled by Department of Agriculture-6 (DA-6).
Toledo also said that once these goats will produce more kids, the province will have its allocation and this allocation will be distributed to other towns as part of the province’s livelihood and agricultural development program to mitigate hunger.
“We want also to upgrade our native goats here to cross with other breeders apart from livelihood purposes”, said Toledo.
Toledo added that land was donated by by Ruth Tirol-Jarantilla to DA-6 purposely for livestock breeding station.
Last year, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has approved the request of Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. to sign into contract agreement with the Early Riser Construction for the construction of the goat house. IMT
