The construction of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project II (JRMP II) is expected to start by the end of the first quarter of 2016.
Senate President Franklin Drilon said the National National Irrigation Administration (NIA-6) is scheduled to conduct the bidding for Korean contractors on the first week of February.
“The decision on which contractor will do the dam will be done during the month of February. The decision of NIA will be processed and subject to the concurrence of Korean Exim Bank. That is the process and we expect to start the actual construction by the end of March,” he said.
According to Drilon, P8.9 billion of the project will be funded by the Korean Export-Import Bank through a loan and the rest will be shouldered the national government.
The construction of the P11.2-billion project is seen to be completed after three to four years.
The JRMP II covers the construction of three dams in the town of Calinog – Jalaur Reservoir, Jalaur Afterbay and Alibunan Catch Dam.
NIA targets to finish at least one dam before the end of President Benigno Aquino III’s term this year.
