Crime incidents in Iloilo City declined by 14 percent, data from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) showed.

ICPO recorded 2, 684 crimes in the first quarter of 2017, lower compared 3,122 cases in the same period last year.

Of the total crime incidents, 479 were index crimes or crimes committed against persons and properties and 2,205 were non-index crimes or violations of special laws and local ordinances.

The most prevalent index crime was physical injury with 268 cases.  It was followed by theft with 178 cases; robbery, 11; rape, 9; carnapping, 6; murder, 4; homicide, 2; and cattle rustling, 1.

Supt. Jowel N. Saliba, ICPO Operations chief, said the decrease was due to intensified visibility operations.

ICPO also conducted a total of 23 drug operations from January to March this year. These resulted in the confiscation of 50.78 grams of methamphetamine or shabu.

Saliba said a total of 468 drug surrenderers have completed the City Government’s community-based rehabilitation program and 306 graduated from the Police Regional Office’s (PRO-6) rehab program. IMT
