A tourism department official has lauded the world-renowned Dinagyang Festival for unifying Ilonggos.

“Dinagyang is more than just the Galing Pook awardee, more than just the best tourism event in the country, more than just the exclamation point of our tourism landscape in Iloilo. Dinagyang has become a unifying force among the Ilonggos year after year,” stressed lawyer Helen J. Catalbas, Department of Tourism (DOT-6) director, during the grand launch of the 50th anniversary celebration of the festival.

“The rich and the poor enjoy celebrating whether it’s religious, it’s festive, it’s culinary, or other various aspects of this giant event,” she said.

The festival’s highlights are slated on January 26-28, 2018.

“We look forward to something bigger, something trending despite the ups and downs in Philippine history, despite the changes in leadership, despite the changes in the economy,” Catalbas said.

The regional director vowed to provide “bigger support” to the Dinagyang Festival 2018.

In the previous edition of the festival, the DOT-6 gave P200,000 to the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI). IMT
