The organizer of the Dinagyang Festival has expressed dismay over the proliferation of political campaign materials in Iloilo City, which is celebrating the 51st anniversary of its world-famous festival.
In its officials statement, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI) “strongly urged” politicians and political parties to “remove and stop littering” the city with their “campaign materials.”
“There will be enough time for election campaign s after the festival,” it said.
The statement was released Thursday evening, Jan. 24. It was signed by IDFI president Ramon Cua Locsin.
IDFI reminded election candidates that they cannot join Dinagyang parades. “Campaign materials and similar collaterals are not allowed. ‘Epals’ are not welcome.”
The organizer also told political strategist, supporters of election candidates and politicians to be “prudent about their presence and speeches.”
“Dinagyang revelers are here to enjoy the festival minus the political circus and campaign discourses,” it stressed.
IDFI said Dinagyang Festival is a “very important cultural and religious celebration if the Ilonggos.” It that assured that the festival’s world-class standard as a celebration of Ilonggo culture, heritage and tradition will be maintained.IMT
