DOH-6 urges people to practice safe sex, use condoms on Valentine’s Day

The Department of Health (DOH-6) has reminded people, especially young adults, to practice safe sex on Valentine’s Day.

One of the safe sex practices being promoted by the health department in Western Visayas is the use of condoms.

Adrian Hort Ramos, DOH-6’s HIV/STI program coordinator, on Tuesday said condom use helps stop the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually-transmitted diseases.

WV is among the regions in the country with the highest cases of HIV. From 1986 to Nov. 2018, the DOH-6 recorded 2,946 HIV cases.

Condoms also prevent unplanned pregnancies, Ramos said.

According to him, in order for condoms to be foolproof, they need to be used correctly.

“Do not use the condom if its packaging is  damaged and do not use your teeth to open the sachet,” he advised.

He also discouraged users from keeping the condom in their wallets.IMT
