The Department of Tourism (DOT) has urged stakeholders to report erring establishments.
“We urge you to report non-compliant establishments to Boracay Inter-agency Task Force (BIATF), and local government units (LGUs) so that we can take immediate action,” DOT Undersecretary Arturo P. Boncato, Jr. said during a meeting with Boracay stakeholders recently.
Issues and concerns regarding the ongoing implementation of policies set by the BIATF were discussed during the meeting.
It was attended by representatives of LGU Aklan, LGU Malay, BIATF, agencies and media, among others.
According to Boncato, the DOT, as of Feb. 19, accredited 319 hotels and resorts operating in Boracay. These establishments have a total of 11,657 rooms.
DOT-6 Director Helen J. Catalbas was thankful for “the cooperation of stakeholders in implementing the rules on accreditation.”
“We believe we are here for a single purpose, to save Boracay because we all want to have a better and cleaner Boracay Island,” she said.IMT
