The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has vowed to coordinate more closely with the Iloilo City Government before the implementation of its infrastructure projects in the metropolis.
The Presidential Management Staff (PMS) held a closed-door meeting yesterday to discuss the delayed road and drainage projects in the city.
The meeting was attended by City Mayor Jose Espinosa III, DPWH-6 Director Al Fruto, engineer Rodney Gustilo of the City District Engineering Office, and Ruby Plagata, regional head coordinator of PMS.
Espinosa said the DPWH assured him to improve its coordination with the city government.
“We were not properly informed of some of the road and drainage projects here,” he lamented.
The mayor urged the DPWH to look for ways to speed up the completion of their projects.
He said the delayed road and drainage projects contribute to flooding and traffic congestion in the city.
The meeting was held at the Central Philippine University (CPU).
In a previous report by IMT News, Gustilo admitted that 38 of their 135 road and drainage projects in the metropolis are not completed within the specific contract time.
He said the delays in the completion of the projects were due to the negligence of contractors (21), and right-of-way issues (17).IMT
