With its ongoing promotions of direct flights to Iloilo, Cebu Pacific partners with the Department of Tourism (DOT-6) to further promote the islands, food festivals and culture of Western Visayas through initiatives for Singaporeans and Hong Kong locals.

Cebu Pacific will bring influencers from Hong Kong and Singapore to Western Visayas on May and October 2016, respectively.

These influencers include a professional cake-baker who has a personal lifestyle and food blog, an Instagram account with over 87,000 followers and a Facebook page with over 16,000 likes; a food blogger who owns “Cuisine Paradise”, an online site that features food recipes, dining reviews and travelogues; and an owner of an artisanal bakery, “Fluff Bakery”, known for its delicious cakes and cupcakes with surprise fillings and innovative flavors.

Lawyer Helen J. Catalbas, DOT-6 regional director, said the initiative is in line with their efforts to use social media platforms in promoting Western Visayas as a top tourist destination in the Philippines.

“We are also looking forward to hosting Singaporeans and Hong Kong locals,” Catalbas added.

According to her, apart from its diverse culture and rich history, Western Visayas also boasts of its distinct flavor that is evident on the taste of the food it offers.

“We are developing culinary tourism as a new product to offer our tourists and having our cuisine posted at these influencers blog will surely rouse the curiosity of its followers to visit the region,” Catlbas further said.

Last year, the region accommodated 18,983 tourists from Singapore and 9,634 from Hong Kong.

Catalbas said she is positive that these numbers will further grow this year.

“Western Visayas is a perfect mixture of antiquity and avant-garde. It is a region of lush natural wonders, vibrant and unique traditions and delectable gastronomy that continues to capture the hearts of millions and will remain to do so in the years to come.” DOT/IMT
