The province of Negros Occidental has effectively positioned itself as an integral part of the country’s gamefowl industry after earning a total of P10 million from gamefowl breeders.
This amount is part of the P4-billion worth of annual revenues collected by the province.
Assistant Vice President for Feeds Sales Norie Bermudez said that Negros Occidental has the largest gamefowl breeders numbering to a thousand to date, complimented by another 1,000 more backyard breeders.
“For gamefowl breeders, higher rates of production mean more income and better livelihood,” Bermudez added.
The gamefowl breeding and fighting industry is currently estimated to be a P50-billion a year industry in the country.
Pilmico said cockfighting rooted culturally in the province which, from being a widely accepted past time, has been translated into a sustainable livelihood, where culture meets livelihood.(with a report from PIA-6) IMT
