Iloilo celebrates women welfare

In celebration of the International Women’s Month, the female members of the Tuburan Abaca Handicraft Association and the Rural Improvement Club participated in the 2013 Tiangge sang mga Kababainhan sang Iloilo.

Held at the Capitol grounds, this undertaking displayed and promoted products of the groups of women micro-entrepreneurs (WMVs) in the province.

The event was graced by Iloilo Provincial Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. Defensor, during the opening program, commended the major contributions of the women employees of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

The International Women’s Day, usually a one-month celebration and originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.

The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2013 is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women,” while International Women’s Day 2013 has declared the year’s theme as The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum. PIA/IMT
