Iloilo mayors urge SP to hasten approval of 2019 budget

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP-Iloilo) passed a resolution urging the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to expedite the approval of the proposed P3.7-billion budget of the provincial government for 2019.

All 23 mayors present during their regular meeting on Feb. 1 unanimously approved the resolution.

LMP-Iloilo secretary general and Alimodian Mayor Geefre Alonsabe said they would furnish the provincial board the copy before the SP regular session this week.

Alonsabe lamented that the town’s athletes who are participating in the Integrated Meet are suffering due to lack of subsidy from the provincial government as the latter is operating on a reenacted budget.

“Each LGU, we have our own athletes. Ti mga athletes ko ya gabalik-balik sa akon kay si Gov. indi pa ka…Lantawa naapektuhan tana ang mga athletes. Ti ano na lang dia bay? Ano tana ran aton sa pulitika man?”

Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. blamed politics for the delay in the approval of the proposed 2019 budget.

Majority of the provincial board members are allies of Fourth District Rep. Ferj Biron who is running for governor against Defensor’s son, Third District Rep. Arthur Defensor Jr.

“Let us make an appeal to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan…Let us disregard our political party for the welfare of the people,” said Alonsabe who belongs to the Nacionalista Party (NP) led by Biron.

Other mayors belonging to NP also approved the resolution.IMT
