Ilonggo athletes bagged early gold medals in the Palarong Pambansa 2019 in Davao City.
Vince Jayson Buhayan of Carles town, Alfrence Braza of Iloilo City, and Alexie Brooks of Leon town emerged victorious in their respective games.
Buhayan, 18, clocked 10.62 seconds in the secondary boys’ 100-meter dash. He defeated two-year defending champion Veruel Verdadero of the National Capital Region (NCR) who settled for silver with a time of 10.81 seconds.
Meanwhile, Braza, 17, won in the secondary boys’ 5000-meter run.
Brooks also topped the secondary girls’ 100-meter hurdle.
In taekwondo, Ilonggo contenders Cindy Joy Diasnes, Sophia Tungala and Cyd Edryc Esmana captured gold medals.
As of 7:46 a.m. today, May 1, Western Visayas ranked second in the medal tally with 19 golds, 12 silvers and 10 bronzes.
The National Capital Region (NCR) remained leading with 27 gold, 21 silver, and 16 bronze medals.IMT
