ISIS presence in Iloilo City? Fake news, says PRO-6

There is no presence of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members in Iloilo City, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) said on Wednesday.

In its official statement, the PRO-6 dismissed as false the information spreading through texts and social media posts about the alleged plot to launch attacks, particularly on the Jaro Cathedral and Jaro Plaza.

“The messages spreading around are all fake news. We would like to request those who have received and will receive the messages to stop spreading [them],” it said.

“Don not be part of spreading fake news and unverified information to prevent panic and sowing fear to other members of the community,” the PRO-6 added.

The false information began circulating after a double bomb attack that hit the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jolo, Sulu on January 27.

The PRO-6 urged the public to report suspicious persons, objects, and activities to authorities.

“The PRO-6 is on the top of the situation and we are imposing measures to monitor and prevent terroristic activities here in Western Visayas,” it assured.IMT
