After 12 weeks or three months of training in Brgy. Pandan, Lambuano, Iloilo, 220 farmers beneficiaries graduated in the annual ‘Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan’ (KSK) project of SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) held at SM City Iloilo Event Center, recently.

Spearheaded by the SM Foundation, Inc. with the participation of Harbest Agritech Services, the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD), Department of Agriculture (DA), the Iloilo Provincial Government and the Municipality of Lambunao, the project aimed at empowering farmers by giving them proper training in handling and growing crops and turning them into a profitable activity.

SM Foundation Incorporated assistant vice president Cristie Angeles said farmer empowerment is key to uplift income as well as to keep the industry for highland farming lucrative.

“This is a ‘win win’ situation for the foundation and the farmers as well as it creates a new breed of suppliers straight from their farms”, she said.

The activity enabled farmers to be equipped with knowledge on the latest technologies in farming and network their products to SM Supermarket branches in the area in the city.

Participants were gathered from different municipalities – Cabatuan, Lambunao, Badiangan, Pototan, Bingawan.

The training program ended with a 2-day closing ceremony. The first was held in the Demo Farm in Lambunao where a showcase of talent in folk dance , composo, and cooking were delivered by the participants. Most Oustanding Participants were awarded during the last day. IMT
