Magnitude 6.5 quake felt in Iloilo

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake was felt in Iloilo City and some parts Iloilo province Tuesday afternoon, April 23.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake was located in San Julian, Eastern Samar.

The quake, upgraded from its initial measurement of magnitude 6.2, struck at 1.37 p.m. It was tectonic in origin.

Intensity 4, which may feel like the passing of a heavy truck and may cause hanging objects to swing considerably, was felt in Iloilo City.

Intstrumental Intensity 2 was felt in Passi City and Iloilo province.

There were no injuries, causalities and damaged structures reported in Iloilo after the quake.

Afternoon work at the Provincial Capitol and City Hall were suspended to ensure the safety of employees.

The quake was also felt in Negros Occidental, Bacolod City, and Capiz.IMT
