Megaworld Corp. is planning to put up a transport terminal within its 72-hectare township in Iloilo City.
Councilor Armand Parcon said the Andrew Tan-led property developer sent a letter to the City Council stating the plan.
Megaworld owns the Iloilo Business Park (IBP) in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district. The township is home to international hotels, residential condominiums, shopping centers, state-of-the-art BPO office towers and the Iloilo Convention Center.
Parcon said the terminal, based on the letter, is intended for vans that will cater to passengers from and going to IBP.
But the councilor was dismayed that vans had already started operating prior to the submission of Megaworld’s letter.
“May ara na ya vans nga nagaoperate especially sa ila area (IBP),” he said.
Councilor Plaridel Nava, chairman of the Committee on Transportation, was also surprised with the operation of vans.
“Subong gabiyahe na sila. I passed by didto (IBP) last time and I asked the drivers kon anu na diri. Sabat nila terminal,” he said.
The councilor discovered that the vans are authorized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-6).
“Amo ni indi sila madakop sang aton traffic enforcers kay may prangkisa man sila,” Nava said.
The councilor said he will invite the van operator, and officials of LTFRB-6 and Megaworld, among others, to a committee conference.
“Diri istaryahon ang legal process sa pagtukod sang terminal kag ang pagoperate man sang vans,” Nava said.IMT
