The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-6) has approved a P500 salary increase for kasambahays or domestic workers in Western Visayas.
Wennie Sancho, labor representative to the RTWPB-6, said the new wage order will take effect starting February this year.
“This is a very welcome development and achievement for the labor sector which has been pushing for the salary increase among kasambahays since 2014,” she said in a report by state-run Philippine News Agency
Sancho, who is also the secretary-general of the General Alliance of Workers Assembly (GAWA), added that they will continue to make sure that other benefits like Social Security System, PhilHealth, and Pag-Ibig contributions are complied by employers.
Presently, kasamabahays in cities and first class municipalities in the region, including Iloilo, receive a monthly pay of P2,000.
Republic Act 10361 or the Domestic Workers Act (Batas Kasambahay), which was enacted in 2013, covers all workers performing household chores, excluding family drivers.
Sancho urged kasambahays to report their employers if they are not complying with the new salary rate. IMT
