When President Rodrigo Roa Duterte publicly admitted that he went through another round of medical procedures, speculations immediately went wild as to the real state of his health and well being.
The President was quick to say that if it is cancer and its third stage he would stop having treatment and step down.
Weeks after it was made public that he undergone colonoscopy and endoscopy, the President went through it again upon advise of his doctors in order to check further his condition relative to his Barret’s esophagus, a complication of gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Of course the public has the constitutional right to know the status of the President’s health especially if it is indeed serious.
However, looking through the way his office handled the situation and how the Filipino people reacted, it appears that the man who was elected by 16 million people and promised them change is losing his tight grip of his own people.
While it is expected of the opposition to antagonize the situation of the President and capitalize on it, the people of the President are apparently lost with no less than the Special Assistant to the President Bong Go publicly denying the medical procedures admitted by the old leader. Even Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque was caught unaware of the situation prompting him to consider leaving his post.
No one from the President’s fake media bureau has come to defend the President or even call for the masses to offer prayers for the leader to survive his health problems.
The most the spin masters managed to do is to make the President personally attack Vice President Leni Robredo in order to divert the attention from his degrading state of health which unfortunately is no longer earning its worth.
Politics is divisive as always but Malacanan today must show resolve in telling the public the plain truth about the health of the sitting leader and enjoin the nation to work as one instead of orchestrating highly divisive tactics that could be very harmful eventually just to hide and cloud the real situation of Duterte.
