Police: Elections in Iloilo ‘peaceful’

The conduct of the 2019 midterm elections in the city and province of Iloilo is “so far generally peaceful and orderly.”

“Well, so far manageable ‘yung situation natin dito sa Iloilo. Very peaceful naman ‘yung ongoing na election natin. No reports of major incidents,” said Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) Director Police Colonel Marlon Tayaba in interview with IMT NEWS.

According to Tayaba, they are closely monitoring towns in the province that have been classified as election hotspots.

There are 16 election hotspots in the province. These are Calinog, Maasin, Lemery, San Joaquin, Igbaras, Tubungan, Alimodian, Miag-ao, Janiuay, Leon, Bingawan, Lambunao, Sara, Estancia, New Lucena, and San Dionisio.

In the city, Police Captain Sheila Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), also claimed that the holding of this year’s elections is “peaceful and orderly.”

“So far matalunsay kag malinong ang nagkalain lain naton nga presinto and pati man sa iban nga bahin sang syudad sang Iloilo. Wala kita sang narecord nga dalagko nga insidente sa eleksyon,” she said.IMT
