The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI scheduled a series of trainings this June and July as Iloilo City gears up to host four Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meetings in July, September and October 2015.
Trainings to be conducted on June 29 – July 3 and July 13 – 17, 2015 include Front Office Operations, Housekeeping Procedures, Waitering and Bartending, and Effective Customer Service and Work Values.
Atty. Helen J. Catalbas, DOT-6 regional director, said efficient service is very important as most of the delegates are first timers in the Philippines and in Western Visayas.
“The primary purpose of the delegates in coming here in our region is to represent their countries in the APEC Meetings, but this conference also becomes a venue of opportunities for the delegates to experience the top tourist destinations, taste local delicacies and see what Western Visayas has to offer to its tourists and investors,” Catalbas said.
She added that these trainings aim to equip frontliners with skills that can provide excellent service quality of globally competitive standard for tourists traveling to and around Western Visayas.
Iloilo City is the last of the three sites in Western Visayas to host the APEC 2015 Meetings.
Bacolod City hosted one meeting in April while Boracay Island hosted 39 meetings in May.
Apart from the upcoming trainings, DOT-6 had already conducted several seminars and trainings such as Filipino Brand of Service Workshop, Tour Package Development and Delivery Seminar – Workshop, Street Food Kulinarya and Food Safety and Handling Seminar, Seminar on Getting to Know Your Tourist, Seminar on How to Handle Persons with Disabilities, Tourism Awareness Seminar for Tourist Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP) Phase I and II, Micro-Tourism Retail Seminar and Professional Filipino Spa Therapist, among others.
