Thousands of devotees, tourists flock to Guimaras

Thousands of devotees and tourists flocked to the island province of Guimaras on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Based on data from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG-Iloilo), Guimaras-bound pumpboats ferried a total of 31, 156 passengers from April 18 to 19.

On April 18, the PCG-Iloilo recorded 13, 980 passengers from Iloilo City to Guimaras. The number increased to 17, 176 on April 19.

Of the total passengers, 10, 768 rode pumpboats bound for the Jordan wharf, 10, 024 went directly to Balaan Bukid, and 10, 293 to the Buenavista wharf.

Meanwhile, 187 passengers took a roll-on, roll-off (RORO) vessel from the Lapuz wharf to Jordan on April 19.

PCG -Iloilo commander Lieutenant Colonel Rodolfo Dela Peña said all the passengers were safely transported to their destinations.

Guimaras’ Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid is one of the well-attended events during the observance of Holy Week in Western Visayas.
