Congressman Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. will take over his father’s seat as governor of the province of Iloilo.
Earning almost half a million votes, Defensor emerged the winner in the gubernatorial race.
Based on the final tally of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Defensor garnered a total of 478, 081 votes.
His opponent, Congressman Ferjenel, got only 391, 403 votes.
Defensor, in a radio interview, thanked the people of Iloilo for their “warm and sincere” support.
He attributed his electoral victory to his accomplishments as congressman of the Third District and his clear plans for the province.
Defensor urged all elected officials, especially those from diffrent political groups, to unite.
“Move on kag ipa-iway ang pilas sang pulitika. Ibilin na ang gutgot sa nakalipas nga eleksyon kag atubangon ang pagpanghangkat sa panghimanwa,” he said.
Defensor will serve as governor starting June 30, 2019.
Other candidates in the guberntorial race were Esperidion Javier (4,564), Vicente Antay (2,840), and Jonry Gargarita (2,755).
On the other hand, Tingting Garin was reelected as Vice Governor of the province.She defeated Barotac Viejo Mayor Niel Tupas III, 443, 266 – 297,539.IMT
