Colorful Paraws will paint the seashore of Iloilo City on the main event of the 43rd Iloilo Paraw Regatta, dubbed as the oldest traditional craft event in Asia and the largest sailing event in the country, on February 21 – 22, 2015.
Paraw Regatta is a race among native outriggers in the strait between Guimaras and Iloilo City and is a reenactment of what had been an entertainment for Ilonggos in the late 16th century.
Among the prominent activities of the weeklong celebration includes Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta, Paraw Festival Fun Run, Photo exhibits, torch parade, Pinta Layag, Deep-Sea Fishing Competition, Beach Volleyball, Beach Football, Beach Ultimate Frisbee, and Pintawo.
“Paraw Regatta Festival maintains the nature and soul of its cultural facet. It has never failed to carry its cultural features while providing entertainment to its spectators,” said Department of Tourism Region (DOT-6) Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas.
One of the highlight events, Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival Queen, launched its region-wide pageantry this year and features 20 finalists vying for the crown who will be the ambassadress of goodwill representing the festival’s advocacy and vision for social and cultural elevation.
“Everyone will surely enjoy this rich and lively annual festival. We encourage you to take photos and share the best of Western Visayas during this major event,” Director Catalbas concluded.
