The Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) of the Iloilo City Government wants the overpass equipped with elevators along Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue (Diversion Road) in Mandurriao district to be fully functional as soon as possible.

Jeck Conlu, PSTMO said he would coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) to know why the elevators at both ends of the overpass are not working.

The pedestrian overpass, considered as the “first of its kind in Western Visayas,” was inaugurated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Jan. 9, 2015.

Conlu said they are willing to provide personnel who will look into the operations of the elevators.

Kon ano ang kulang, ang PSTMO willing magprovide sang personnel nga mag-operate para magamit na sang public especially sang senior citizens, PWDs (persons with disabilities), and pregnant women.”

Measuring 50.234 meters long and three meters wide, the “state-of-the-art” overpass amounted to P19,302,321. It was funded by the Road Board.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III, said the city government has no jurisdiction over the project.

“It was not yet turned over to the city government by the DPWH,” he explained.

Ila na ya nga project. kag we will just wait for their time nga magturn-over kag tan-awon ta man.”IMT
