Hundreds of athletes across the region faced off in the 2014 Western Visayas Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet.
The delegations from the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Antique showcased competitive spirit during the week-long sporting event held in the province of Antique recently.
The province of Capiz did not join this year’s WVRAA due to financial strain.
Capiz was among the badly-hit provinces by the super typhoon last year.
The region’s best athletes disputed in the following sports events: athletics, badminton, baseball, sepak takraw, football swimming, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball at Binirayan Sports Complex.
Other games were archery and arnis at Antique National High School; boxing at EBJ Freedom Park; chess at Department of Education (DepEd) rooftop; softball and tennis at St. Anthony College and gymnastics at Antique SPED Center Gym.
WVRAA is one of the biggest sports events in Western Visayas.
The province of #Iloilo grabbed a total of 17 gold medals to take the lead in the 2014 Western Visayas Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet. #Iloilo remained on top as of yesterday, February 12, 2014 with a 17-17-12 (gold-silver-bronze) tally. #NegrosOccidental secured the second spot with 15-15-14 medal tally followed by the host province -#Antique (1-0-2), #Guimaras (1-0-1), #Aklan (0-0-1).\IMT
